This vibrant design depicts a nativity scene detail from an original 1650 altar frontal. The ‘travelling’ altar frontal was created for use during Catholic services during a time of religious conflict in the mid-17th Century. The three kings are depicted in early 17th Century court dress and Mary and Joseph are in the more modest clothing of the time. The original embroidery would have been stitches by several amateur embroiderers of different levels of expertise so if your technique varies don’t worry, the original is worked by perhaps three or four embroiderers of varying styles.
Each kit includes everything you need to complete the design, including our new look instructions! The design is an ideal size for a Christmas cushion or looks lovely simply framed.
