This cross stitch kit comes from the large pattern chart created by Frédérique Crestin-Billet evoking famous Bayeux Tapestry. Its represents The Pledge of Bayeux, episode which is not on the large pattern chart.
The action takes place after the attacks on Rennes and Dinan, William and two knights head for Bayeux, the episcopal city of his half-brother, Odo.The town is symbolised by a castle on a mound which can be reached by a bridge. The following scene is at Bayeux: Duke William is represented on his throne holding his sword pointing upwards. Facing him, Harold takes an oath on two reliquaries placed on a stand decorated with draperies. By this pledge, Harold swears loyalty to William and promises him the throne of England upon Edward’s death. We know that this will not happen and Harold will nevertheless be crowned King of England.
