Early 20th century, cream colored, embroidery linen placemat trimmed with hand-made lace; sold individually; 33cm x 20cm / 13 inches x 8 inches
These pieces were found in an old house owned by a lace-manufacturer family (Experton, Frère et Sœur, Retournac, c. 1900). In 1903, the brother and sister Claire and Auguste Experton founded their first handmade bobbin lace factory in Retournac, France. Today, the Retournac Lace Factory Museum is located in the very building where this factory was established.
