20th century, rustic linen placemat trimmed with hand-made lace; ideal for cross-stitch; set includes 4 pieces; approximately 20cm / 8 inch diameter
These pieces were found in an old house owned by a lace-manufacturer family (Experton, Frère et Sœur, Retournac, c. 1900). In 1903, the brother and sister Claire and Auguste Experton founded their first handmade bobbin lace factory in Retournac, France. Today, the Retournac Lace Factory Museum is located in the very building where this factory was established.
